10 Things that can KILL your parrot!

10 products to avoid with parrots

Owning parrots can be overwhelming with so many things that are hazards to them, these are just the basics but a good place to start that isn’t super overwhelming.

non – stick coating

pans, air fryers, toaster ovens, baking sheets, muffin tins, loaf tins, etc. – go for stainless steel, cast iron, or glass. If you wish to purchase an air fryer or toaster oven I would contact the company and ask if their products contain PTFE or PTFO

Candles

yes, even the “parrot-safe ones” I would avoid, just with how sensitive parrots’ respiratory system is id rather be ultra-safe than learn the hard way with a very sick or dead bird. Learn about safe options: Parrot Safe Air-Fresheners

Incense

Essential Oils

Perfume

Air Fresheners

Ceiling Fans

THESE MUST ALWAYS BE OFF WHEN YOUR PARROT IS OUT OF THEIR CAGE. For some parrots even having a ceiling fan running in a room while they are in their cage can be freighting since they are prey animals they sometimes will view them as a predator.

Windows

KEEP THEM CLOSED when your parrots are out. So many people have lost parrots outside some can recover their birds but others are not. I have gotten into the habit of checking that the door to the room my birds are in is closed and that the window is closed BEFORE I open their cage, also because I am paranoid before I open a window I check that the bird’s room door is closed and that they are in their cage.

Kitchens

kitchens are full of hazards they have breakable glass items as well as ovens and stoves which get hot and can harm your birds. They could get behind the fridge or stove. Kitchens should be a no-bird zone not only for your own health but for their safety.

Cats/other pets

I know you see those “cute” videos of parrots and cats or dogs “playing” but this should be avoided at all costs not only can these animals KILL your parrot if they get irritated but their saliva is highly toxic to parrots. Your birds should NEVER see your dogs/cats.
