Common Items That Kill Parakeets/Budgies – Household Hazards Parrots

Parakeets/ Budgies have a very sensitive respiratory system. These common household items will give your bird and Upper Respiratory Infection or kill them so it is best to not have these in your home.

• Self-cleaning ovens – it is fine to have an oven with a self cleaning function just do not use it as it can kill your parakeet/budgie/parrot
• Household plants House Plants and Parrots goes over which plants are safe for your parrots and different considerations you should think of when having plants in your home with parrots
• Candles
• Essential oils
• Incense
• Room sprays – the above 3 as well as room sprays are full of so many chemicals it really shouldn’t be a suprise that they are dangerous to our parakeets/budgies with super sensitive respiratory systems.
• Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) – toaster ovens, pots and pans, air fryers, baking sheets, hair driers – PTFE releases toxins into the air that makes birds seriously ill or kill them immediately. Do lots of research as there are safe options of each of those but you really need to keep in mind most of them are dangerous, but you can find some that are bird safe.
